The Story

LONIA Cava is a family owned Bodega founded in 1983, situated in the township of Subirats, near Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. Viewed as pioneer in specializing for the production of white varieties of Burgundy and Alsatian origin: Chardonnay, Muscat, Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Gewürztraminer, very well adapted to the Penedès grounds and climate. These new varieties now coexist with the classical Penedès grapes (Perellada, Macabeo and Xare-lo) which are used for the production of the traditional white wine range and rosé. These three white varieties are also the basis for the production of the quality sparkling wine known as Cava. The philosophy of the company is that the vineyards are the basis to elaborate good wines. That is why so much care is dedicated to all processes, from the selection of the most suitable variety (to the ground and climate), through pruning and all other activities through the year until harvest. This last activity is done mostly with mechanical means and at night (in order to bring the grapes to the winery at a low temperature). It is fundamental that the grapes reach the winery under the best conditions.
