The Story
The estate is located at an altitude of 780 meters above sea level, in a landscape of vineyards, almond and cherry trees. Most of the vineyard is protected by the Sierra de la Virgen, which gives its name to the winery. This is a land full of tradition, pundonor and hard work on the part of its inhabitants. On the outskirts of the village, in the La Cañadilla area, situated between 800 and 870 meters above sea level, the grapes are harvested early and the fruit is redder and very fresh. On the other hand, in the Llano Herrera zone, located at a slightly higher altitude, but further from the village, the grapes are harvested 15 to 20 days later, with a lower alcohol content, but darker fruit. The main grape variety is the red Garnacha, which accounts for 70% of the vineyard. Macabeo, which accounts for 12% of the vineyard, is generally found at higher altitudes: 900-1,100 meters above sea level. It is very important, as there are practically no Macabeo vines left in the region.
