The Story

Grégory Pérez is one of the members of the new generation called to take over the production of the great wines of Spain from his Mengoba winery. Graduated from the Bordeaux School of Oenology and Viticulture in Blanquefort in 1998. He worked at Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste and above all at Château Cos d'Estournel between 1997 and 2000. After taking his first steps in France, his family roots and the encouragement of a friend led him to Spain, and more specifically to Bierzo. Mengoba is a project in which he devotes all his energy and which shares with his fellow generation a philosophy that seeks respect and sustainability of the vineyard. These principles are bringing to light natural wines with the personality of each "terroir". The vineyards are located in the town of Espanillo, in the Bierzo region, at the source of the River Cúa. They are situated on steep slopes at an altitude of over 600 m, facing south and ventilated by constant air currents. The soil is a mixture of clay and decomposed slate, in a wooded environment of great natural diversity. Gregory and the bodega aim to promote quality wines made from carefully selected grapes, while respecting biodiversity.
