The Story
Château La Sable is a Provence history : the bastide dates back from the 18th century and is located in the middle of 14 hectares park, with 10 hectares of vines. The estate has belonged to a family from Forcalquier, near Manosque, for several generations. In the 19th century, Victor-Étienne Pascal, the owner at the time, had two towers added to the estate, giving it its majestic château appearance today. His descendants sold the estate to the Lembo family in 1964. Their son-in-law, Bernard Delarozière, developed the business until Jean-Marc and Virginie acquired it in 2017. The terroir is mainly sandy, which gave its name to the estate! The first vines were planted in 1967, with varieties typical of the region including Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Cinsaut. In 1986, a winery was built and the estate became one of the first private wineries in the Luberon! Since Jean-Marc and Virginie's arrival, they planted white grape varieties that was not present before such as Rolle, Clairette, and then Syrah and Grenache through massal selection. Finally, they started the conversion to organic farming throughout the estate since 2018, and the wines have been certified organic since the 2022 harvest.
