The Story
Domaine Fournier Longchamps was created in 2006 by the family Fournier-Longchamps, from the nearby town Angers. It is located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, and is composed of 43 hectares of vines on the appellations Savennières, Roche aux Moines, Anjou Blanc and Anjou Villages, Coteaux du Layon, Coteaux du Layon 1er Cru Chaume and Quarts de Chaume Grand cru. The cellar was built in 2008 and centered around the use of gravity : the family are taking great care of their wines, and are known for their expertise of the Chenin Blanc and the Savennières, which represents 80% of the production. Anjou are on terroir of schist and Savennières is a mix of schist and voccanic rock, giving a strong texture and minerality in the wines. The terroir expression is preferred, and the vinification is closest a Burgundy one, with the use of wood. The estate possess an impressive collection of old vintages of Savennières. It has been certified organic since 2009 and follows the biodynamic principles.
